Published 27 October 2026, updated 29 October 2026 by the Sabi team.

The WASSCE 2026 results for Sierra Leone were announced on 27 October 2026. Only 9.77% of candidates got a credit in English Language, down from 11.77% in 2025, and 63.33% failed it. In Maths, 62.15% got a credit. 11,772 candidates met the university requirement, up from 7,024 last year.

How did students do in English?

Only 9.77% got a credit (A1 to C6) in English Language. 63.33% failed. 19,464 candidates registered for English but did not sit the paper.

In 2025, 11.77% got a credit and 63.02% failed, but far more stayed away: 41,269 were absent from the English paper. So this year more students sat English, and fewer got a credit.

The Ministry calls English results "of concern". It plans to bring educationists together for ideas and is looking at crash training for English teachers.

How many met the university requirement?

11,772 candidates got 5 credits including English and Maths in one sitting. That is up from 7,024 in 2025. 73,573 got 5 credits including English or Maths, enough for many diploma and certificate courses.

Why were so many results withheld?

47,454 results were withheld for suspected malpractice, against 13,237 in 2025. The Minister said this includes answers shared on social media and with AI. Candidates can check their status on the WAEC Sierra Leone site. If yours was withheld, you wait for the decision after the investigation.

Separately, the results of 368 candidates from five private schools were not released because their schools had not paid WAEC. If you are in that group, talk to your school.

What changes next year?

The Minister announced a new WAEC bill with legal action against malpractice and sanctions on schools, and a unique learner ID linked to the national ID number (NIN).
