No credit in WASSCE 2026 English? UNIMAK offers provisional admission

Yes, the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) will give provisional admission to some WASSCE 2026 candidates who did not get a credit in English. You need credit passes in four or more other subjects, and you must pass English by 31 October 2028. The UNIMAK Senate announced this in a communique dated 31 October 2026.

Who can get provisional admission at UNIMAK?

Candidates who sat WASSCE 2026, have credit passes in four or more subjects, but have no credit in English Language. It covers degree programmes across the university.

Which programmes are not included?

Law and Nursing are not included. The Senate says it will say more about those two later.

What must I do after I am admitted?

You must register for and attend UNIMAK's remedial English classes. You must also pass English and submit the result on or before 31 October 2028. If you do not, your admission is not confirmed and you lose the place.

Can I re-sit English at UNIMAK?

Maybe. UNIMAK says it will ask WAEC to make re-sits possible at the university. Nothing is fixed yet, so ask the Registrar's office.

Will this happen again next year?

No. The Senate says this is a one-off decision for WASSCE 2026 only. It is not a waiver of English. English is still needed to keep your place.

Why did UNIMAK do this?

English results were very low this year. Only 9.77% of candidates got a credit (A1 to C6) in English, the Minister said when the results came out.
